The best of the best! We roundup the best trolley bags 2023

In golf, managing your gear effectively can make all the difference between a frustrating round and a seamless one. Trolley bags are a significant part of this equation, offering an effortless way to transport your clubs and accessories around the course.

This guide focuses on some of the best trolley bags currently on the market that blend durability, design, and practicality. We’ll be looking at the Motocaddy Pro Series, Powakaddy Dri-Tech, Sun Mountain H2NO Lite, Cobra Ultralight Pro, Titleist Cart 14 StaDry, Big Max Dri Lite, and Ping Pioneer.

These trolley bags, renowned for their ample storage space, durability, and sophisticated designs, offer a host of features designed to improve your experience on the golf course.

The Motocaddy Pro-series on first glance is a terrific looking bag. It is primarily black with some tasteful stripes in areas and blue trim (lime and red also available). I actually had some fun seeking out the multitude of features for myself prior to reading the specs which are comprehensive.

The top is 400×440 mm and has 14 full length dividers which are fairly standard now on quality bags. They do help to prevent the irritating tangling of club shafts of old. There is a separate putter well which will accommodate the beefiest of over-sized putter grips. It is made from PU/Nylon and the contrast of matt and gloss areas make it an attractive and modern-looking bag. It has 9 pockets. On each side there are 2 large pockets and a smaller dry valuables pocket which is a nice touch. The three pockets on the front are a typical layout for this bag with the lowermost being the largest. The middle pocket is a cool pocket for food and drink and has a natty, rigid design to it.

A large cart bag, fully loaded for all contingencies is a pleasure. This Motocaddy cart bag has everything you could need for a stress-free round.

Straight away, this is a really smart-looking golf bag. This bag comes with five different colour options. I tested it in gunmetal with Powakaddy’s signature yellow on the trims.

There is certainly a lot of room in this golf bag, even I, who takes everything but the kitchen sink out on the golf course with me, couldn’t fill up all seven spacious pockets provided. If I was being picky it would be nice to have a separate water bottle pocket/holder so you can easily access your drink. However, there is plenty of space in the rest of the bag to keep a water bottle or two.

There is also a built-in umbrella holder, a towel holder and a scorecard holder on the front of the middle pocket.

It comes with a 14-way divider for your clubs which keeps your clubs separated nicely and makes it very easy to find what club you want quickly. There is also a large dedicated putter bay that can house any size of putter grip, this is extremely useful for players with large putter grips that wouldn’t fit in a conventional club slot.

This bag is waterproof thanks to its heat-welded coating, which so far has successfully kept my golf clubs dry in light and heavy rain. The pockets have superior heat-welded seams to keep water out. In previous experiences with this tech, the pockets can become very hard to access but Powakaddy have done a very good job of making all your kit accessible.

I have always liked Sun Mountain’s approach to golf bags. They are a little bit different from other manufacturers. It came as no surprise to me then, to see the striking colours of this cart bag. The one reviewed is described as navy/blue/ocean. The blue is lighter than a classic navy and the ocean is a bright green, mainly lining the dividers. One if you want to stand out from the crowd. It is definitely light, made from TPU-covered waterproof fabric and with waterproof zips and multiple pockets. What more could you want?

This sat nicely in my electric trolley and, when strapped in did not budge once during the round. Sun Mountain always seem to have put real thought into their designs and this shone through for me with the dividers. All the dividers are large enough that should you accidentally put a club into one that already contained a club you didn’t spend the next 5 minutes trying to extricate both clubs that had become stuck. The dividers in the centre are a bit bigger than the ones down the side and not once during my rounds did I have the above-mentioned issue.

This is not your typical cart bag. It has clearly been designed to be light and waterproof and it has achieved both of these in an uncompromising way. It’s not cheap at around £359. Most golfers will buy only one cart bag. I think this needs to be in the conversation when looking at cart bags despite it being a little different. It does what it was designed for exceptionally well and I enjoyed using it.

Looks wise, I think this is a smart-looking cart bag. I tested the black/white bag which had grey panels on it. I would say this was a fairly plain option but for those golfers who desire a little more colour, the Cobra website offers this bag in six other colourways.

I really enjoyed taking the bag out on the course. There were so many pockets, twelve to be exact, allowing plenty of room to store everything I needed. My particular favourite feature was the cooling pocket which was huge, I could fit my whole forearm in it! This is an insulated pocket meaning that I didn’t have to take a separate lunch bag with me to keep all of my food and beverages cold. As per the Cobra website, it can hold up to nine cans. There are also two water bottle pouches which are of generous size.

As lightweight golf bags come, this one is great. Equipped with plenty of apparel pockets, full-length dividers, a range finder pocket and a cart strap pass that provides easy access into all pockets this golf cart bag ticks so many boxes and all for just over 2kg! Not only is it one of the lightest cart bags on the market but it’s one of the most reasonably priced.

This is a great-looking golf bag. I would have liked any of the seven different colour choices Titleist offers in the Cart 14 StaDry bag, but this all navy option is really cool. I couldn’t believe how light it was with nothing in it, weighing in at just 2.7kg; I thought a bag that was this waterproof was certain to be heavier.

I don’t see how a brand can make a waterproof cart bag any better than this. It’s a bold statement, but I stand by it. Titleist have been making seriously good cart bags for a long time now and have pretty much covered all of the golfer’s needs.

I tested this bag on one of the worst golfing days of the year during one of National Club Golfers equipment testing weeks at my home club Sand Moor in Leeds. It rained. A lot. For pretty much the entire time we were out on the course. Perfect conditions for a waterproof bag test, I guess.

This is definitely one of the better Titleist bags I’ve ever used and is a radical shift from that old leather tour bag I used to have. It is at the top end of the price up at £250 recommended retail price, but if you are a fairly serious golfer who wants to get a lot of kit in the golf bag for top performance potential or just live in the UK where it seems to rain all the time, it s a good investment in your game and will last for years.

The Big Max Dri Lite Hybrid Tour Bag is excellent for practicality and storage. There is plenty of storage, five water-resistant pockets, a waterproof valuables pocket, a 14-way divider, an umbrella holder, glove storage and a towel holder. What more could you need?!

Big Max has manufactured an ideal option for those who’d like the option of carrying or using a trolley for their round ahead. Whether it be weather conditions or general energy level as the deciding factors, the option for both on arrival may well be welcomed.

The 14-way divider was great for keeping your golf clubs organised, and an easy-fitting rain cover was easy to use when needed. The storage includes an integrated cooler pocket to keep refreshments dry and cold, along with a valuables pocket with 100% waterproof material and waterproof zippers. This was well-tested, thanks to the constant rain conditions the bag was tested in. I’m pleased to say it passed with flying colours. In this particular round, I had the bag fitted to a push trolley, it fitted on excellently thanks to the bottom of the bag being trolley compatible, which allowed it to stay perfectly square and stable throughout the round.

Overall, this is an excellent option for those who would like the option to carry or push their golf bag around. Excellent storage, light weight for the size of it, and it is excellent looking.

From the off, this bag looks really good. Available in four different colours, I got this to test out in the grey white option, which looks really smart. There are multiple options for storage and the 15-way divider means this offers you everything you could require in terms of storage from a cart bag.

I tested the Ping Pioneer bag out over two rounds of golf and enjoyed the amount of storage the bag had. With a grand total of 14 pockets, the Pioneer comfortably holds everything from spare clothing, to waterproofs, balls, tees, and accessories. It even boasts a cooler pocket to look after your mid-round refreshments. There is also a magnetic pocket which was helpful for easy access to the regular accessories, or more balls in my case. This would also work really well as a rangefinder pocket.

Overall, I was really pleased with the look and performance of the bag. It was really easy to set up, the storage was excellent, and I really liked the overall styling.
